After “high praise” for the success of our students at the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts 2022, we are bringing back the Festival Preparatory Intensive class. Students will build a portfolio of dramatic work to be presented for adjudication at the local 2023 Festival held in April.
To qualify for consideration to go on to the Provincial Festival each participant must present a piece in the three areas of Speech Arts: poetry, prose and drama. Our toolbox will include, finding the right pieces, developing a simple personal warm up technique to prepare before any performance, voice, body, characterization and improvisation skills to discover surprises for improving each piece. The group will work as collaborators of their classmates through observation and constructive critique skills to fine-tune each other’s performances and feed off the energy, growth and inspiration of the group. There will also be some individual one-on-one with the instructor. Finally, our thespians will present their work to a professional festival adjudicator for comments and insight to take their work to even greater development and the possibility of the adjudicators’ recommendation to move on to the Provincial Festival. Last year we were very pleased and honoured to have a student reach this goal of presenting at the Arts BC Provincial Festival.
SCFPA entry is open to participants 11 years to adults. For specific information about either the local or Provincial Festivals please contact Sandi through the Theatre School email contact.
